For more than four decades, Sammy Hagar has been one of rock’s most electrifying frontmen — a powerhouse singer, songwriter, and performer whose journey began far from the spotlight. Born in Salinas, California in 1947 and raised in a working-class family in Fontana, hard work was ingrained in him early. At age 13, he convinced his mother to buy him a $39 Sears guitar on monthly payments — a humble start that sparked a career spanning over 50 million albums sold, 25 Platinum records, and some of rock’s most iconic anthems.
From his breakout with Montrose to his era-defining run as frontman for Van Halen, and later Chickenfoot, The Circle, and The Best of All Worlds, Hagar has delivered hits like “I Can’t Drive 55,” “Right Now,” and “Why Can’t This Be Love.” His 2024 Best of All Worlds Tour became one of the top-grossing tours in North America and Japan.
In 2025, Hagar released Encore, Thank You, Goodnight — a powerful tribute to Eddie Van Halen co-written with Joe Satriani. The track debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song chart, earning millions of views and widespread critical acclaim. Hagar reunited with Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Kenny Aronoff for a headlining Stagecoach performance and a hit Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live. A live album from the residency, Sammy Hagar & The Best Of All Worlds Band – The Residency, arrives October 10, 2025 via Big Machine Rock.
Beyond music, Hagar built one of entertainment’s most successful lifestyle brands. His flagship Cabo Wabo Cantina opened in 1990, followed by his groundbreaking Cabo Wabo Tequila, sold in a record-setting nine-figure deal that helped ignite today’s celebrity spirits trend. His award-winning portfolio now includes Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum (with Rick Springfield), Santo Spirits (with Guy Fieri), and Red Rocker Brewing Co., complemented by restaurants and beach bars nationwide.
A #1 New York Times bestselling author, TV host, radio personality, and committed philanthropist, he and his wife Kari have donated millions through The Hagar Family Foundation. His honors include a Grammy Award (1992), induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Van Halen, 2007), the first Honorary Ambassador to Los Cabos (2022), and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2024). Still, Hagar considers his greatest achievement being a devoted husband and father of four.
